| Abstract |
| Two nanocomposites HB (humic acid@biochar) and HBS (humic acid@ biochar@ silica) were synthesized from natural sources and used to removing methylene blue dye (MB) from wastewater. The nanocomposites were characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, Zeta potential, BET and SEM-EDX. All composites have negatively charged surface with nanosized crystals. The surface area was found from BET studies equal 34 and 41 m2/g, respectively. The maximum removal efficiency of HB and HBS was 98.89% and 97.3% for MB at pH 9, the contact time of 5, 60 min, respectively, and at initial concentration of 100 mg/L. The adsorption isotherms were better matched by the Langmuir model and the adsorption capacity of HB and HBS were 153.37 and 2.84 mg/g, respectively. From this results HB more effective adsorbent than HBS. Successive adsorption-desorption cycles occur by the adsorbent confirmed that nanocomposites prepared can be reused after recovery of MB by 6N HCl without significant capacity loss. |
